Braun Strowman opens up on biggest win of his career – “I was the only one to crush him”
Braun Strowman shared details about his historic bout against Bill Goldberg at WWE WrestleMania 36.
Braun Strowman shared details about his historic bout against Bill Goldberg at WrestleMania 36. The bout took place at the WWE Performance Center in Orlando due to the COVID-19 pandemic, marking the first WrestleMania without a live audience.
Strowman captured the WWE Universal Championship from Goldberg in just over two minutes. During a recent interview with Chris Van Vliet, Strowman discussed the significance of the victory and revealed a personal connection with Goldberg.
“I’m the only person to ever squash Bill Goldberg,” Strowman said. “It meant the world because as a kid growing up, idolizing him to becoming friends with him, man… you know, unfortunate circumstances with everything going on with the pandemic, what happened… he wanted me. So, he picked me… to do that, and do the honors, and pass that torch.”
Strowman also recalled a meaningful conversation with Goldberg at the Performance Center. “He goes to me, he’s like, ‘Look…’ Let me not paraphrase it wrong… he said, ‘I can count on one hand how many people that I would do this for, and I’d still have three fingers left.'”
After being sidelined with a torn groin since September 30, Strowman made his return during last Friday’s SmackDown taping. He teamed with Dragon Lee and Rey Mysterio for a dark main bout victory over Carlito, Finn Balor, and JD McDonagh.
Matt Riddle addresses potential retirement bout against Bill Goldberg
Following discussions about Goldberg’s impact on Strowman’s career, another name has emerged in connection with the WWE Hall of Famer. Matt Riddle recently addressed speculation about potentially facing Goldberg in his retirement bout scheduled for 2025.
During an interview with Barstool Rasslin, Riddle expressed doubts about the possibility. “I don’t think he wants to step up to the plate. You know, we’re keeping it real,” Riddle said.
Riddle revealed they had discussed their previous issues during a WWE trip to Saudi Arabia. He explained his perspective on pro wrestling rivalries, referencing his storyline with Seth Rollins.
“I’m just talking shit, you know? People talk shit in fighting, and half the time they’re just spitting shit to get ticket sales,” Riddle said. “Like say me and Seth when I was going through a divorce, and then Seth called that out. Like, I told him to say that. ‘Cause I knew everybody would be like oh my god that’s real.”
