Braun Strowman disclosed details about his Universal Championship victory over Bill Goldberg at WrestleMania 36, highlighting a personal connection between the competitors. In a recent interview with Chris Van Vliet, Strowman shared insights about their encounter at the WWE Performance Center.
“I’m the only person to ever squash Bill Goldberg. It meant the world because like I said, as a kid growing up, idolizing him to becoming friends with him, man… you know, unfortunate circumstances with everything going on with the pandemic, what happened… he wanted me. So, he picked me… to do that, and do the honors, and pass that torch,” Strowman stated.
Strowman revealed a significant conversation with Goldberg at the Performance Center. “He goes to me, he’s like, ‘Look…’ Let me not paraphrase it wrong… he said, ‘I can count on one hand how many people that I would do this for, and I’d still have three fingers left,'” Strowman recalled.
The match, which aired with a nine-day delay due to pandemic restrictions, resulted in Strowman’s first world championship reign lasting 141 days until his defeat by Bray Wyatt at SummerSlam.
Strowman recently returned to action during a SmackDown dark match following recovery from a torn groin injury sustained in September. Meanwhile, Goldberg confirmed on ESPN his plans for a retirement match in 2025, approved by WWE Chief Content Officer Triple H.
