While currently embroiled in a high-profile alliance on WWE RAW, Bron Breakker is already planning for life after wrestling, and his chosen path lies far from the squared circle. The former Intercontinental Champion has revealed a deep-seated passion for competitive fishing, a hobby he intends to pursue professionally once he hangs up his boots.
Breakker discussed his lifelong interest in the sport during an appearance on the Six Feet Under podcast.
I’ve been fishing since I can remember. It’s something that’s started to pick up more recently. I’ve gotten into fishing tournaments now. Maybe one day, when I decide to hang up the boots, and, you know, maybe my body’s quitting on me or whatever the situation is—I want to fish professionally when I’m done.
This quiet ambition presents a stark contrast to his current role on WWE television. Breakker is a central figure in an aggressive faction alongside Seth Rollins, a partnership solidified when he attacked Roman Reigns and CM Punk. On the most recent episode of WWE RAW, he defeated Penta in a match described as an “instant classic,” winning with a mid-air Spear.
His journey into more serious fishing began with fellow WWE superstar Tony D’Angelo at the Performance Center. After starting on the shoreline, Breakker knew he needed a boat to handle the different environment in Florida.
Me and Tony D’Angelo from NXT became buddies at the Performance Center, and we started fishing here and there—just off the bank. But I remember thinking, ‘This is a whole different kind of fishing down here. We need a boat.’
The two started with a johnboat before Breakker purchased a used boat to explore larger lakes. Acknowledging his inexperience with certain motors, he admitted the learning curve was steep.
We got something used and beat it up pretty good. I beached it a couple times flying around, just learning and figuring it out.
