Veteran WWE referee Charles Robinson has responded publicly after being leveled by a shoulder tackle from Undisputed WWE Champion John Cena during the chaotic main event of Night of Champions. The official took to social media following the event in Saudi Arabia to provide updates and critique his own performance.
The incident occurred during the championship match between Cena and CM Punk. After the original referee was incapacitated, Mr. Money in the Bank, Seth Rollins, attempted to cash in his contract, prompting Robinson to sprint toward the ring. Before he could officiate the cash-in, Cena intercepted him on the entrance ramp, taking him out of the play entirely.
In a lighthearted take on the dramatic moment, Robinson shared a self-critique of his sprint to the ring before the attack.
“I ran so slow,” Robinson wrote on Instagram.
Following the event, the referee also provided a brief, reassuring update for concerned fans and colleagues on his physical condition. In a post on June 29, Robinson simply stated, “I am alive.”
However, he followed up with a more ominous message on Instagram, posting a picture from the event with a caption that has fueled speculation about the storyline’s future direction.
“No idea how this will end,” he wrote.
Cena ultimately defeated Punk to retain his title. His next challenger has been confirmed as Cody Rhodes, who earned the opportunity by winning the King of the Ring tournament, with the championship match set for SummerSlam in August.
