Charlotte Flair’s win over Nikki Bella at Night of Champions in 2015 is remembered as the end of a historic 301-day title reign. For Flair, however, the moment was far from celebratory. In a recent interview, the current WWE Women’s Tag Team Champion admitted she felt completely overwhelmed that night.
Flair reflected on her 196-day run with the Divas Championship, describing it as a time marked by self-doubt. She said she didn’t view herself as a legitimate champion but rather as someone carrying a prop.
“When I won the Diva’s Championship from Nikki Bella, I wasn’t ready. The title owned me, I didn’t own the title,” Flair told Kate Mackz. “You don’t want it to be about the title, you want it to be about you. It’s about the person holding it. So I didn’t think I got to that until I became the inaugural Raw Women’s Champion at WrestleMania 32 and I retired the Diva’s Championship.”
Flair pointed to that night at WrestleMania 32, when she was crowned the first WWE Women’s Champion, as the true turning point in her career.
Now, nearly a decade later, Flair is thriving in a new chapter alongside Alexa Bliss. Although she acknowledged she prefers singles competition, she credited Bliss with helping her showcase another side of her character.
