The moment in question occurred during an in-ring promo battle ahead of their championship clash at WrestleMania 41. In a move that blurred the lines between storyline and reality, Stratton brought up Flair’s real-life divorces, stating she had an “0–3 record at marriages.” Flair’s on-screen reaction appeared authentic, and she has now confirmed it was.
“So when it got mentioned in Chicago that I have an ‘0–3 record at marriages,’ Yeah, it rocked me legit. I’m not too proud to tell you that,” Flair wrote.
She explained the distinction she makes between her persona and her actual life, a boundary she felt was crossed in that moment. “Because, and maybe this makes me naive, in my head? Charlotte hasn’t been divorced. So I wasn’t expecting it to come up in that promo, and then all of a sudden I had an entire arena cheering as I got mocked for something that was devastating to me.”
Flair detailed the internal struggle of separating “Charlotte” from “Ashley,” noting that when real trauma is used, the boos feel directed at her personally. This feud, built on such a raw and personal insult, concluded at WrestleMania 41, where Stratton successfully defended her WWE Women’s Championship against Flair.
Since that event, their paths have diverged. As Flair has taken time to reflect on her career and the emotional weight of her character, Stratton’s reign as champion continues. It was announced on last week’s WWE RAW that Stratton’s next title defense will be against Hall of Famer Trish Stratus at the WWE Evolution premium live event on July 13.
