CM Punk: ‘John Cena Is My Wrestling Soulmate’

CM Punk has reflected on his two-decade career by naming John Cena as his greatest rival, calling him his “wrestling soulmate.”

In a recent interview, Punk looked back on their storied feud and highlighted one specific encounter as his favorite match. He pointed to the February 25, 2013, episode of Raw, where he and Cena battled for the right to face The Rock at WrestleMania 29.

“Number one with a bullet, myself versus John Cena. Heading into WrestleMania 29, I believe. The winner got the illustrious spot of wrestling The Rock at WrestleMania. Well, I lost. Big f—king deal. John Cena is my wrestling soulmate. I had excellent chemistry with him this night. The crowd was electric. It’s a real fun time. You should go watch it,” Punk said.

His comments arrive as Cena’s retirement tour continues to dominate headlines. AEW’s Adam Copeland, another of Cena’s iconic rivals, recently stated he has no interest in rekindling their feud, preferring to watch his final matches “from a distance.”

Drew McIntyre, however, is determined to force one last showdown. The Scottish Warrior has made clear that his pursuit of the Undisputed WWE Championship is fueled by the desire to use the title as leverage to bring Cena back for a final match before his retirement in December.

As Copeland distances himself from the idea and McIntyre pushes forward, Punk’s words serve as a reflective counterpoint. Rather than chase another chapter, he chose to underscore the bond he and Cena forged in the ring — a rivalry he views as a defining highlight of both their careers.
