A new report suggests the former champion's return is imminent. Key scheduling changes involving Becky Lynch and CM Punk for tonight's Chicago show are cited as the primary evidence for the move.

Reports indicate AJ Lee may return to WWE on tonight’s SmackDown in Chicago. The speculation is based on new information from PWInsider. The outlet notes that Becky Lynch is scheduled for the show’s final segment. This comes after WWE removed CM Punk, Lee’s husband, from the show’s official preview earlier in the day.

This potential return is linked to the escalating conflict between Punk and The Vision. Becky Lynch recently cost Punk his World Heavyweight Championship match at Clash in Paris. She then confronted and repeatedly slapped him on this past Monday’s Raw.

These events are expected to lead to a mixed tag team match. The bout would feature Punk and Lee against Rollins and Lynch. It is reportedly planned for this month’s Wrestlepalooza premium live event.

Wrestlepalooza will be the first PLE under WWE’s new media rights deal with ESPN.

If she appears, it will mark Lee’s first time in a wrestling ring since March 2015.
