SmackDown General Manager Nick Aldis announced that Cody Rhodes will relinquish the Undisputed WWE Championship at Saturday Night’s Main Event. The announcement came during a confrontation between Aldis and Rhodes on SmackDown.
A contract signing segment for the Royal Rumble 2025 ladder match will take place at Saturday Night’s Main Event on January 25, 2025, with Shawn Michaels overseeing the proceedings. During this segment, both Rhodes and Kevin Owens will surrender their respective championships.
Owens currently holds the Winged Eagle Championship following his victory against Rhodes at the previous Saturday Night’s Main Event. Both the Undisputed WWE Championship and the Winged Eagle Championship will be suspended above the ring for the ladder match at Royal Rumble 2025.
The titles are being relinquished specifically for the ladder match format, where competitors must climb a ladder to retrieve the championships hanging above the ring. The winner of the Royal Rumble 2025 ladder match will claim both championships.
