Cody Rhodes Discusses Complex Relationship with The Rock After RAW’s Netflix Debut

During a recent interview with TheOneMona, Cody Rhodes shares insights about his dynamic relationship with The Rock following their interaction on RAW’s Netflix debut.

Cody Rhodes addressed his current standing with The Rock during an interview with TheOneMona ahead of Royal Rumble. The discussion focused on their recent interaction during RAW’s Netflix premiere, where The Rock appeared to break from his ‘Final Boss’ character by embracing Rhodes at ringside and sharing tequila backstage.

Rhodes explained the complex nature of their relationship, particularly noting their history at WrestleMania 40. The Undisputed WWE Champion acknowledged The Rock’s victory over him the night before he won the championship.

I tell people always when it comes to The Rock and The Final Boss, I think personally that I feel he either sees something special in me and as the head of the board and as him and Nick Khan and Triple H leading us into this next generation, he sees something and wants to push me to go for it. That’s more from a behind-the-scenes perspective, but I also wonder in my own mind sometimes just kind of laying there looking up thinking maybe he hates me, absolutely hates me, and is planning some devious way to get back at me for the things that took place at WrestleMania 40, which he shouldn’t. I mean, the night before I won it all, he actually has a win over me.

Rhodes elaborated on The Rock’s understanding of professional wrestling during the conversation.

Really, really unique outside the box thinker and for a guy who’s been on every movie set, he’s been around the A list. He is A list. He’s walked into every room. I can look in someone’s eyes and know when they have the fever for wrestling when they’re a wrestler.I think we might hate each other, but we’re both wrestlers and I think that’s what the connection is about, it’s the idea that he knows if he puts me in a Macon, Georgia at a live event or somewhere around the country and I’m representing this company, which is also his company, that I won’t leave anybody hanging that I, that I will do my damnedest to deliver.

Rhodes concluded by addressing the uncertainty of their relationship.

So, yeah, but all that to say, I don’t know where we stand again. The dude could run up on me right now and pop me in the ear and we’d be right back in it, but I don’t know where we stand now. It’ll always be in question, but he’s certainly been helpful to me as champion.

Bill Goldberg amassed an undefeated streak of 173-0 during his run in WCW. One of his matches during this period took place at Halloween Havoc 1998 against Diamond Dallas Page.

During an interview on The Ariel Helwani Show, Goldberg recalled Page’s detailed match preparation approach.

Dallas came to me with 14 pages of a match and I think he wanted me to spear him seven times. Prior to that, I only speared anybody one time. Sting, being Sting, said, ‘You know what Bill, I think that was one of the best matches and best decisions of your life.’

Goldberg reflected on his past character decisions.

You can look at it myopically or you can look at it in its totality. Business-wise, I should have made more of those decisions. I shouldn’t have been so protective of my character. A lot of people say, ‘You’re a mark for yourself,’ right? I was a mark for myself because nobody else had my back. Nobody. I came in as a professional football player and I tried to take dudes jobs that have been in the sport and business since childhood because that’s the only thing they ever wanted to do, and it meant so much to them. I took that for granted a little bit. I always came in it with a different mentality. At the end of the day, if I didn’t have that different mentality, I wouldn’t have been what I was, and what I was, was something different. I think I was fairly successful at it. I still haven’t seen people do some of the stuff I was able to do.

Goldberg’s retirement match is scheduled for 2025.

During his Kliq This podcast, Kevin Nash proposes Randy Orton as an alternative third member to The Rock and John Cena’s alliance instead of Travis Scott.

John Cena turned heel at Elimination Chamber 2025, aligning with The Rock and attacking WWE Undisputed Champion Cody Rhodes. The moment marked Cena’s first villainous turn in his 20-year WWE career.

Travis Scott’s involvement in the segment drew criticism from fans, particularly after reports emerged about Rhodes sustaining an injury during the interaction.

Kevin Nash addressed the alliance formation during his Kliq This podcast, suggesting a different name for the group’s third member.

Have Randy Orton join Cena and Rock… I don’t think Travis Scott is the right guy to be out there as the third. You would have to have somebody come back, like if you could get [Steve] Austin or Undertaker if they had a year left in them, then you could get that. You know what I mean? Then it’s a different era. It’s none of the new guys. But we’ve all timed out. I think Randy looks amazing right now.

Orton will likely challenge Cena during his retirement tour, which concludes in December.
