Kevin Owens faces Cody Rhodes for the Undisputed WWE Championship in a ladder match at Royal Rumble following a disputed finish at Saturday Night’s Main Event. Owens has since carried the Winged Eagle Championship, claiming to be the rightful champion.
Former WWE writer Freddie Prinze Jr. shared his perspective on the upcoming ladder match. During a recent discussion about the championship situation, Prinze Jr. elaborated on why Kevin Owens deserves consideration for a title reign.
Kevin Owens has been so great in these promos, so great, there are not a lot of people that could go toe-to-toe with him on the microphone that he’s genuinely got me convinced he deserves to win the belt and have a sort of evil reign of terror over Cody while Roman finishes up his Bloodline stuff. And I think he would come out with the Winged belt instead of the World Championship belt, like an insult to it. Or if he has both on one shoulder when he walks out.
While acknowledging Rhodes as the likely winner, Prinze Jr. believes Owens could hold the championship during Roman Reigns’ ongoing Bloodline storyline, potentially setting up a future program between Rhodes and Reigns.
