AEW Champion Reveals He Has Unfinished Business With Jon Moxley

AEW World Trios Champion Powerhouse Hobbs stated he has unfinished business with Jon Moxley. During an interview with Fightful, Hobbs pointed to a canceled storyline from years ago as the origin of this unresolved tension.

He explained the situation involved a planned program with himself, Moxley, and Darby Allin. The angle never materialized after it was shut down by the COVID-19 pandemic.

“We do have some unfinished business,” Hobbs said. “There are things that were supposed to happen earlier in my career with the match with me, him, and Darby. Due to COVID, it didn’t happen… There is still some unfinished business.”

Hobbs’ statement reframes a rivalry that has already produced two violent championship matches. Their history includes an IWGP World Heavyweight Championship match in April 2024 where Hobbs suffered a ruptured patellar tendon. The injury sidelined him for nearly seven months.

The animosity escalated upon his return. Hobbs challenged Moxley for the AEW World Championship in January 2025. Moxley retained the title, but his Death Riders stable launched a post-match assault, targeting Hobbs’ surgically repaired knee with a steel chair.

Despite this history of title bouts and targeted attacks, Hobbs’ comments indicate that the original, aborted storyline remains the true source of their conflict.
