Disappointing Update On Cody Rhodes’ WWE Return Timeline

WWE Champion Cody Rhodes has been photographed in Australia, confirming his arrival in the country to begin filming for the upcoming live-action Street Fighter movie. The photos, which were reported by the Daily Mail and captured by Jayden Seyfarth for media-mode.com, show Rhodes in Sydney with blond hair for his role as Guile.

Rhodes’ arrival solidifies his upcoming absence from WWE programming. The company wrote the champion off television following a storyline attack by Drew McIntyre on an episode of SmackDown, citing a kayfabe head injury.

With filming scheduled to commence on September 2, Rhodes is now confirmed to be missing the Clash in Paris premium live event on August 31. His on-screen rival, Drew McIntyre, has been using Rhodes’ real-life movie commitment in recent promos to taunt the absent champion.

Rhodes is not the only WWE star involved in the 2026 film, which is directed by Kitao Sakurai. According to PSXBrasil, Roman Reigns is also part of the cast, though previous reports state Rhodes is not expected to be on set for as long as Reigns, who is scheduled to face Bronson Reed at Clash in Paris.

The movie will also feature NJPW’s Hirooki Goto as E. Honda, Noah Centineo as Ken, and Andrew Koji as Ryu. The new photos from Australia follow a recent teaser image of Rhodes’ Guile look shared by comedian Andrew Schulz. The character was previously portrayed by Jean-Claude Van Damme in the 1994 version of Street Fighter.
