A compelling theory suggests Jey Uso should be John Cena's final opponent, a move that could cement his destiny as the 'Next Tribal Chief' in WWE's biggest storyline.

Former World Heavyweight Champion Tipped as John Cena’s Final WWE Opponent

A strong case is building for Jey Uso to be John Cena’s final opponent, as the WWE legend nears the end of his in-ring career with just five matches left on his retirement tour. While big names like Brock Lesnar or a rising star have been floated as options, one story-driven pick is gaining traction. On the NotSam Wrestling podcast, analyst Sam Roberts highlighted a pitch from WWE correspondent Megan Morant that puts Uso in the spotlight.

Roberts pointed to the history between the two. Cena’s farewell run kicked off at the Royal Rumble, where Uso eliminated the 17-time world champion. That moment, Roberts argued, created a natural link that could now come full circle—ending Cena’s career while cementing Uso’s rise.

The matchup would also give Jey Uso a career-defining opportunity. A main event against Cena would push him closer to his pursuit of becoming the “Next Tribal Chief.” That idea ties into recent storylines, including Roman Reigns’ on-screen endorsement when he told Jey, “This is all yours. F–k them all.”

Roberts also noted that Uso’s Royal Rumble elimination was more than a one-off. It marked a turning point in Cena’s own character arc, fueling the heel turn that defined this final chapter. A farewell match against Uso, then, would carry added weight—closing out a year-long story for both men.

Meanwhile, WWE is celebrating Cena’s last year in the ring in other ways. The company announced the John Cena Farewell Tour Edition Pack for WWE 2K25, set for release on October 16.

The downloadable pack features multiple versions of Cena, including his current heel persona with the WrestleMania 41 entrance, his classic “Doctor of Thuganomics” character, and even the parody Ron “R-Truth” Cena. Brock Lesnar will also be a playable character, along with five exclusive farewell tour t-shirts. Pricing hasn’t been revealed yet.
