AEW star Buddy Matthews has stirred speculation from the sidelines, posting a cryptic message to his Instagram stories that was quickly reshared by his wife, Rhea Ripley. The post featured a spin on a well-known idiom, stating, “Don’t bite the hand that feeds you cause most likely the hand that feeds you don’t need you.”
The message comes during a long and frustrating hiatus for Matthews, who has been off AEW television since February. His last appearance was at the Grand Slam Australia event, where he sustained a significant ankle injury during his entrance for a match against Kazuchika Okada.

The injury, a partial ligament tear with cartilage damage, did not heal as expected. After noting a lack of mobility in June, Matthews finally underwent surgery to repair his ankle in August and is now on the mend. He is still a member of the “Hounds of Hell” faction within the company.
Just a day before this cryptic post, Matthews had shared a more positive update, posting a video of himself training for his comeback.
This latest message, however, injects a new layer of drama into his recovery, sparking questions about its potential meaning while he works his way back to the ring.
