After joining the company in a backstage capacity earlier this year, wrestling broadcasting veteran Josh Mathews made his on-camera debut for AEW during the All In preshow. His appearance confirmed his transition to an on-air role within the promotion.
Mathews was featured as part of the event’s preshow panel and also conducted a backstage interview with Swerve Strickland and Will Ospreay.
This on-screen role follows a May report from PWInsider that Mathews had started with AEW as a producer. He was later seen in a video posted by his former WWE Tough Enough castmate Maven, where Mathews discussed his new position. In the clip, he explained he was shadowing the EVP of Global Production, Mike Mansury.
“Right now, shadowing Mike Mansury,” Mathews said in the video. “I’ll do the Ring of Honor matches before, then I’ll sit, watch AEW Collision, then do the Ring of Honor matches after. So, it’s a busy night.”
Mathews’ arrival in AEW comes after his departure from TNA Wrestling in February, where he had worked for over a decade. His most recent position with TNA was Senior Producer and Senior Director of Digital Media, having previously served as the lead play-by-play announcer from 2014 to 2021. His career in wrestling began after he was the runner-up in the first season of WWE Tough Enough in 2001, which led to a contract as a commentator with WWE.
