Former WWE Universal Champion Says He’s “Semi-Retired”

A statement from former WWE Universal Champion Adam Scherr has clarified his current status in pro wrestling. Scherr, known to fans as Braun Strowman, revealed he considers himself “semi-retired” from the industry to focus on a career in acting. The declaration was made during a recent interview with Collider.

“I’m semi-retired from wrestling now, too, because I want to be an actor,” Scherr said.

Scherr has not competed in a match since his WWE contract expired on July 31. This departure marked the second time the former champion has been released by the promotion since 2021.

He previously returned to the company in September 2022 following his initial release. His second tenure with WWE did not include any championship victories.

The former champion’s shift in focus is supported by his work in film. Scherr has an acting credit in the 2025 movie Deathgasm 2: Goremageddon and previously appeared in 2015’s Holmes and Watson.
