Former WWE World Heavyweight Champion Reflects On Vince McMahon’s Confusing Plans In WWE

Nic Nemeth recently discussed his past WWE World Heavyweight Championship reign during an interview with Jon Alba on The Takedown for Sports Illustrated. Nemeth reflected on his Money in the Bank cash-in after WrestleMania 29 in 2013, where he defeated Alberto Del Rio for the championship.

Like when I became world champ, the first match I had, I remember Vince told me once, ‘you finally cash in this contract, you won’t lose every single night. Everyone forgets about it. It’s all out the window. You’re the world champ’

Nemeth revealed that the following week on Monday Night RAW, he lost a match to Jack Swagger in under 10 minutes.

I cash in. I was the world champ. The next Monday, I lost a five-minute match. Jack Swagger and I went, ‘what the f***’ are we doing here? Like what?

Nemeth currently holds the TNA World Championship and spoke about the collaborative environment backstage at TNA Wrestling.

I’m a link in this team that is kicking ass behind the scenes. Ariel [Schnerer], Tommy, Gail, kicking ass. Motivating all the talent, having a relationship with the talent where it’s like, ‘how about this? How about this,’ and then meeting in the middle. Like, whoa, that can happen. Like, this is the coolest thing ever.

TNA World Champion Open to John Cena Appearance

During the same Sports Illustrated interview, Nemeth addressed the possibility of John Cena appearing in TNA Wrestling following the new WWE partnership.

Por mais que eu gostaria de monopolizar isso, não importa quem estivesse naquele momento com ele, seria muito legal, porque ele fez tanto por tantas pessoas.

Nemeth drew comparisons between Cena and Hiroshi Tanahashi, noting both wrestlers are on farewell tours. He stated Cena’s presence would benefit TNA Wrestling.

John Cena begins his farewell tour at WWE Royal Rumble 2025 on February 1, with confirmed appearances at Elimination Chamber in March and WrestleMania 41.
