GUNTHER Confronts CM Punk On WWE RAW, Makes SummerSlam Promise

The stage for the World Heavyweight Championship match at SummerSlam was set on the July 21 episode of WWE RAW, which opened with a tense, face-to-face confrontation between the champion, GUNTHER, and his challenger, CM Punk.

Addressing the Houston crowd, Punk spoke on his upcoming title opportunity, which marks his first match at SummerSlam in 11 years. After acknowledging GUNTHER as one of the best wrestlers in the world, Punk stated that while he couldn’t guarantee a victory, he promised the fans he would leave everything he has in the ring. He declared that despite having only two weeks to prepare, he feels he has been preparing for this specific match his entire life.

This declaration brought out the reigning World Heavyweight Champion. GUNTHER took his time before speaking, noting that both he and Punk are driven by the same goals: making money and winning championships. He asserted that they both believe they are the best in the world.

The champion concluded his address with an insult directed at both Punk and his fans before exiting the ring, leaving his challenger staring after him. The segment solidified the animosity heading into their title bout.

CM Punk earned this championship match on the July 14 episode of WWE RAW, where he won a grueling Gauntlet Match by last eliminating a dominant Bron Breakker.

The championship encounter will take place at SummerSlam, which is scheduled as a two-night event on Saturday, August 2, and Sunday, August 3, at MetLife Stadium in East Rutherford, New Jersey.
