World Heavyweight Champion Gunther has identified The Miz as one of his most enjoyable opponents during his historic run with the Intercontinental Championship. The revelation came during a recent conversation with Ariel Helwani, where Gunther discussed his preference for facing competitors with contrasting in-ring styles.

Never imagined that The Miz would be one of my favorite opponents, but the rivalry that I had with him for the Intercontinental Championship is one of my favorites. Similar to the work with Jey, they are complete opposites, and that challenges me to find a different route to make it work from my side. I always hope I can challenge the other person to take that extra step to try something new. On paper, there are things I think ‘I’m going to like this,’ and sometimes it doesn’t happen that way. The things where you think ‘let’s see how this goes,’ end up being fantastic.

Before capturing the World Heavyweight Championship, Gunther established himself by securing the longest Intercontinental Championship reign in WWE history. His title run featured high-profile matches against Sheamus and Drew McIntyre before he eventually dropped the belt to Sami Zayn.

During the same interview, Gunther acknowledged his perspective shift regarding Jey Uso as his WrestleMania opponent. Despite initial skepticism, the champion now recognizes the value in their program following story development between the two competitors. Gunther noted he considers himself an ideal challenge for rising stars gaining popularity with the WWE audience.
