"I felt envy" - Multi-time WWE champion reveals he wanted to be in Cody Rhodes' spot at WrestleMania 40
The former World Heavyweight Champion discusses professional jealousy and WWE’s approach to top talent positioning.
Seth Rollins has opened up about his complex emotions surrounding Cody Rhodes’ WrestleMania 40 championship victory. During an interview with Chris Van Vliet on Insight, Rollins acknowledged feeling both joy and jealousy regarding Rhodes’ ascent to the top of WWE.
The Visionary reflected on the company’s treatment of select talent:
I had a different experience watching Cody win the title. I felt joy, probably a little bit of jealousy. But I don’t know, I’ve never really been the guy that’s been handed the ball that way. For the last 10 years, it’s been Roman for the most part, and then Cody comes back and he kind of gets that treatment as well
Rollins admitted to aspiring to a similar position within WWE, though noting that decision-makers viewed him differently than they did Roman Reigns and Rhodes.
CM Punk Questions Rollins’ Presentation
Following their match at RAW’s Netflix premiere, CM Punk offered candid thoughts about Rollins’ character presentation. At the post-show press conference, Punk praised Rollins’ in-ring ability while criticizing his aesthetic choices:
I’m not gonna disparage Seth—at least not his ability. Maybe the way he dresses. Honestly, I don’t think he needs to do all that. I think Seth Rollins is a killer. But when he dresses that way and acts a certain way, I don’t think he’s a killer
Punk emphasized that their recent encounters brought out a more serious side of Rollins, contrasting with his usual flamboyant persona.
