It was very strange. When I left WWE in 2021, my father was very ill. In 2017, right after we returned to WWE at WrestleMania, it was probably the last time he felt well before falling into deep depression.

Hardy missed WrestleMania 2021 following his father’s passing on April 6. After declining rehabilitation, he departed WWE and completed his 90-day non-compete period before signing with AEW.
