The two wrestlers have a recent championship history. Jey Uso captured the Intercontinental Championship from Breakker in 2024, marking his first singles title in WWE. Breakker had initially won the championship from Sami Zayn at SummerSlam 2024.

After a 27-day reign, Jey Uso lost the title back to Breakker on the October 21 edition of Monday Night RAW. This victory established Breakker as a two-time Intercontinental Champion.
