Jey Uso’s WWE Status Worries Analyst

After a landmark championship win and subsequent loss, Jey Uso's creative direction is now in question, according to recent podcast analysis.

Jey Uso’s WWE Status Worries Analyst

After establishing himself as a premier singles competitor in the first half of 2025, Jey Uso now finds himself at a career crossroads. His journey culminated in a historic victory over Gunther at WrestleMania 41, where he captured his first major singles championship. However, his reign as World Heavyweight Champion was cut short when he lost the title back to the Austrian on the June 9 episode of WWE RAW, leaving his future path unclear.

Jey’s brief run as champion was notably successful with the WWE Universe, a rare feat for a babyface titleholder. Since the loss, however, a sense of aimlessness has crept into his storyline. An attempt to get back into the title picture stalled when he was defeated by Cody Rhodes in the semi-finals of the King of the Ring Tournament.

The situation was recently addressed by Sam Roberts on the NotSam Wrestling podcast, who suggested a creative reset is necessary.

“I think Jey might need to reestablish himself because it’s been made very clear that Jey and Gunther is done. Jey said from the beginning that Gunther and I, as far as he’s concerned, are 1:1,” Roberts stated. “But I do think it’s time for Jey to find a new purpose and a new specific opponent. Maybe that’s around the corner, maybe that’s for SummerSlam, I don’t know.”

This need for a new direction was highlighted on the July 7 edition of WWE RAW, where Uso was the target of a vicious assault by Bronson Reed. The match between the two ended in a disqualification when Reed used a steel chair. The attack continued post-match, with Reed delivering two Tsunami finishing moves, leaving Uso requiring assistance from officials.

While Jey’s current narrative unfolds on RAW, a separate family conflict is escalating on SmackDown, where his brother Jimmy Uso and Jacob Fatu were attacked by Solo Sikoa’s MFT faction on July 4. Despite the family ties, Roberts does not believe Jey will be crossing brands to join that fight.

“I don’t think that Jey Uso gets involved in this. I don’t see what it has to do with Jey Uso to tell you the truth other than the fact that his one brother Jimmy is on Jacob Fatu’s side and his other brother, Solo, is the one fighting them,” Roberts explained. “He’s related to them but based on the story that he’s telling on RAW, I don’t see what that story has to do with Solo’s family right now.”

Contrary to that view, insider reports have suggested Jey’s title loss was a calculated move to free him up for a potential return to SmackDown. These reports indicate a long-standing plan to reunite The Usos in 2025 to even the odds in the “Bloodline Civil War,” a move that would place Jey’s singles career on hold. The failure to find a compelling new angle for one of the company’s most popular stars has become a significant point of discussion.
