John Cena May Face Longtime Rival on Retirement Tour

JBL reveals he would come out of retirement for one final match with John Cena during the WWE star’s 2025 farewell tour.

Will John Cena’s farewell tour include one last clash with the man who helped launch his championship legacy? JBL certainly hopes so.

As Cena prepares to wrap up his storied 23-year main roster career in 2025, JBL reflected on their memorable 2005 WrestleMania 21 encounter where Cena captured his first WWE Championship. Speaking on the Something to Wrestle podcast, JBL expressed his willingness to step out of retirement for one more match with the 16-time champion.

I was so happy that I was part of John’s formative career. And again, I don’t take any credit for anything John did. John would be exactly where he is now, with or without me. I’m just glad that I was one of the ones that was there at the start. But John’s such a great guy. Everything about him…the more you know about John, from his Make-A-Wish, what he does, to how he interacts with fans, to how he interacts with talent, what he’s done with talent, it’s just amazing. So yeah, of course [I’d like one more crack at him].

Will John Cena Break Ric Flair’s Record?

While fans debate whether Cena should break the world championship record during his farewell run, JBL shared his perspective on the milestone:

I think it be cool to see. It’s like the four minute barrier of the mile, you want to see it broke…you want to see Judge break Babe’s record. You want to see stuff like this happen in life. You don’t know…when it could ever happen again. Randy looks like he’s getting up to that point that he might be the guy that breaks it as well. But I’d love to see it, and I can’t wait to see what all John does in the next few months.

When you’re gone for a while, you just kind of enjoy being back in the arena. Seeing the guys that you know, seeing the new guys. They treat you unbelievably well. It’s amazing how well. A lot of people sent out those notes that we got at Christmas, ‘Thank you for being a legend and building this business.’ They just do cool things. The way they handle legends is just fantastic.
