AEW has announced a high-stakes street fight between World Champion Jon Moxley and Cope for next Wednesday’s Dynamite. The winner will advance to Dynasty in April to defend against number one contender Swerve Strickland.
The matchup was revealed during Wednesday’s post-Revolution edition of Dynamite. This marks a rematch from their encounter at Revolution this past Sunday.
During Wednesday’s broadcast, Swerve Strickland addressed his championship aspirations in a post-Revolution interview. Strickland noted he first captured the World title at last year’s Dynasty and expressed his desire to repeat this achievement.
Cope interrupted Strickland’s interview with a confident declaration. He mentioned the possibility of defending against Strickland at Dynasty, suggesting he could become champion before the event.
The segment concluded with both competitors showing mutual respect through a fist bump. This interaction demonstrated the competitive yet professional relationship between the two wrestlers.
The original Revolution match became a triple threat when Christian Cage cashed in his World title shot contract. Christian had earned this opportunity at last August’s All In.
Moxley secured victory at Revolution by choking out Christian while Cope lay motionless on the canvas. This finish protected Cope while still giving Moxley a decisive win.
The upcoming street fight stipulation adds a violent element to the rematch. This environment could favor Moxley’s brawling style or present Cope with opportunities to use weapons.
AEW has also confirmed an International Championship eliminator four-way match for next Wednesday’s show. The winner of this match will earn a title shot at Dynasty.
The Dynamite episode will take place in Omaha, Nebraska.
