The bout was made following the events of the August 27th episode of Dynamite, where Omega made a surprise return to save the AEW World Champion from a multi-man assault.
During that broadcast, Page was addressing the crowd when he was interrupted by Don Callis, who declared his intention to bring the AEW World Championship back to his faction. This led to Josh Alexander, Lance Archer, Hechicero, and Rocky Romero surrounding the ring and attacking the champion.
Just as the beatdown commenced, Omega’s music hit to a massive ovation from the Philadelphia audience. He, along with Bailey and Knight, stormed the ring to even the odds and clear out the Don Callis Family members.
The save culminated in a highly anticipated moment between the former AEW World Tag Team Champions. Omega and Page shared an embrace in the middle of the ring before Omega raised Page’s hand, solidifying their reunion.
Omega’s appearance was his first since competing in a brutal Lights Out Steel Cage match at Forbidden Door just days prior. His return provides a major boost to AEW’s main-event scene, particularly after it was confirmed that Will Ospreay is out indefinitely to undergo surgery for a pre-existing neck injury.
