Kenny Omega Addresses Reports He’s Battling Very Serious Pain

Kenny Omega has publicly addressed reports that he is currently “battling very serious pain.” In a social media post on Friday, Omega downplayed the severity of the situation and confirmed he still plans to compete in a scheduled eight-man tag team match on next week’s episode of AEW Dynamite.

Responding to a fan discussing the report, Omega wrote, “Everybody is in some way, right? Let’s not worry about me, we got work to do next week! I’ll be fine.”

The initial report surfaced from Dave Meltzer of the Wrestling Observer Newsletter on August 28, stating Omega was dealing with significant pain, though the specific nature of the issue was not detailed. This news followed a physically intense week for the former AEW World Champion. On August 24, he competed in the main event of Forbidden Door in London, a ten-man Lights Out Steel Cage match. Just three days later, on the August 27 edition of Dynamite, he made a surprise appearance, engaging in a brawl with the Don Callis Family before reuniting with his former tag team partner, ‘Hangman’ Adam Page.

Concern over Omega’s condition is amplified by his recent medical history. He was sidelined from late 2023 through the summer of 2024 with a severe case of diverticulitis. The condition ultimately required major abdominal surgery in May 2024, which involved the removal of a portion of his colon. After a lengthy recovery, he made his in-ring return in January 2025 and has since spoken about the lasting effects of the procedure, including internal scar tissue and new physical limitations.

The report on Omega comes as AEW navigates injuries to other key performers. Will Ospreay is preparing for neck surgery to address two herniated discs, and Swerve Strickland recently underwent a procedure for a torn meniscus. On a more positive note, the same Wrestling Observer Newsletter report indicated that Orange Cassidy, who has been out of action with a shoulder injury since March, is expected to return “sooner rather than later.”
