Kenny Omega Rebukes “Time Off” Framing of AEW Absence

The former AEW World Champion used social media to correct reports about his hiatus. He stated the absence is for pre-planned "specialized hospital visits and work," not a simple vacation or break from wrestling.

Kenny Omega addressed reports surrounding his upcoming AEW absence on September 4. He directly challenged the framing of his departure from television. Omega clarified the hiatus is for scheduled medical treatment and work, not general time off.

“Time off? Specialized hospital visits and work that had been planned for a year, but sure, let’s bait the trolls,” Omega stated via X.

His statement follows the conclusion of the September 3 episode of AEW Dynamite. During the broadcast, TNT Champion Kyle Fletcher executed a brainbuster on Omega through a table. The attack culminated with Omega being stretchered out of the Philadelphia arena.

This segment was an on-screen angle designed to facilitate a pre-planned departure. The kayfabe injury provides a storyline reason for his absence. It was also intended to elevate Fletcher.

Reports confirm the time away was arranged months in advance. The schedule includes a trip to Japan for engagements such as the Tokyo Game Show. Consequently, Omega is not expected to be part of the AEW All Out pay-per-view on September 20.

Omega, who has been wrestling through pain following his bout with diverticulitis, expressed frustration with reporting he deemed misleading. He affirmed his intent to “represent the company in a positive way while not performing.”

There is currently no official timeline for his return to AEW programming.
