A report from Dave Meltzer in the latest Wrestling Observer Newsletter indicates that Kenny Omega is currently “battling very serious pain.” The revelation comes just two days after Omega made a highly physical and unannounced return to AEW programming.
Omega appeared on the August 27 episode of AEW Dynamite, rushing to the ring to save AEW World Champion ‘Hangman’ Adam Page from a multi-person assault by the Don Callis Family. During the save, Omega single-handedly cleared the ring of Hechicero, Rocky Romero, and Josh Alexander before assisting Page in fending off Lance Archer.
The segment concluded with Omega and Page, former tag team champions with a storied rivalry, embracing in the center of the ring in an apparent reunion.
News of Omega’s condition lands amid a series of significant injuries impacting AEW’s main event scene. Will Ospreay is preparing to undergo neck surgery to repair two herniated discs, while Swerve Strickland recently had a procedure to fix a torn meniscus he first suffered in 2019.
There was, however, a piece of positive news, as the report also noted that Orange Cassidy is expected to be back in action “sooner rather than later.” He has been sidelined with a shoulder injury since March.
This is not the first extended period Omega has faced significant health challenges. He missed all of 2024 after a diverticulitis diagnosis in late 2023 led to surgery. He was also absent for nine months from late 2021 into 2022 to recover from a wide range of injuries.
