Cody Rhodes will have a busy weekend in the New York/New Jersey area for SummerSlam. In addition to his main event match, Rhodes is now scheduled to be part of a special Late Night Show hosted by comedian Tony Hinchcliffe on Saturday, August 2.
Hinchcliffe, a noted wrestling fan with ties to the Joe Rogan circle, has worked with WWE before, hosting an untelevised “Roast of WrestleMania” during WrestleMania weekend. This new event places The American Nightmare on a live stage just one night before he is expected to challenge John Cena in a high-stakes rematch from WrestleMania 41.
The SummerSlam main event itself carries significant weight. It continues a storyline that saw Cena defeat Rhodes for the Undisputed WWE Championship at WrestleMania 41. Rhodes earned this rematch by winning the 2025 King of the Ring tournament, choosing to face Cena to reclaim the title.
Complicating the narrative are recent reports about Rhodes’s budding acting career. He has reportedly been cast as Guile in the upcoming “Street Fighter” movie, with filming rumored to begin in August. This has led to industry speculation that an acting commitment could necessitate time off from WWE, potentially influencing the outcome of his championship match against Cena.
