The main event for the second night of WWE SummerSlam is now set, as the Undisputed WWE Championship match between John Cena and Cody Rhodes will close the show on Sunday, August 3. A report from Fightful Select confirmed the placement of the highly anticipated bout, which will cap off the two-night weekend at MetLife Stadium in East Rutherford, New Jersey.
This championship encounter is a rematch from WrestleMania 41, where Cena defeated Rhodes to capture the title. The stakes are now even higher, as the match will be contested under Street Fight rules, adding a layer of unpredictability to what is being billed as Cena’s final appearance at SummerSlam before his planned retirement at the end of 2025.
For Rhodes, this main event provides a direct path to redemption. After his loss at WrestleMania, he clawed his way back into title contention by winning the 2025 King of the Ring tournament. His journey stands in contrast to Cena’s current run as the self-proclaimed “Last Real Champion,” a more ruthless persona he has adopted since winning the championship.
The confirmation of the main event solidifies the card for the first-ever two-night SummerSlam, an event that will also stream internationally on Netflix for the first time. The show’s second night features a stacked lineup of championship contests.
The confirmed card for Sunday, August 3 includes:
