Major Twist Emerges On WWE SmackDown Duration

Recent reports suggest a significant change is coming to the broadcast length of WWE SmackDown, altering its current three-hour format.

Major Twist Emerges On WWE SmackDown Duration

A new development in WWE’s programming schedule indicates that the three-hour broadcast format for SmackDown is set to conclude. According to reports from both Wrestling Observer Radio and PWInsider, the show is expected to revert to a two-hour runtime beginning on August 15.

This change contradicts previous information that suggested the USA Network intended to maintain the extended three-hour block for the program. The new reports are based on USA Network’s scheduling of a new series, a show based on John Grisham’s “The Rainmaker,” which is being advertised for a premiere in the 10 PM EST time slot on Friday, August 15. This premiere directly conflicts with the third hour of SmackDown.

On Wrestling Observer Radio, Bryan Alvarez addressed the situation, noting that while an initial plan to end the three-hour shows in May was reversed, the extension was not indefinite.

“That means that’s the end of three hour SmackDowns. Because this show is premiering at 10 ‘o’ clock, on Fridays on USA,” Alvarez stated.

Supporting this timeline, a report from PWInsider noted that the media database Metacritic also lists “The Rainmaker” with a debut date of August 15 at 10 PM EST. The scheduling of a new program in that specific time slot serves as a clear indicator of the impending change to SmackDown’s broadcast length.
