Major Update Emerges on Alberto Del Rio’s Potential Return to WWE

Despite previous reports dismissing the idea, new information suggests there is a contingent within WWE advocating for the return of Alberto Del Rio. This development adds a new layer of complexity to his status following his recent departure from AAA.

Speculation about Del Rio’s future intensified after he lost a “Loser Leaves AAA” match to El Mesias just weeks ago, a move that many interpreted as the end of his run with the promotion now owned by WWE. While initial reports from Fightful Select indicated that WWE had no plans to bring him back, a different perspective has emerged.

According to Dave Meltzer on Wrestling Observer Radio, some individuals inside WWE are actively pushing for his return to the main roster, impressed by his star power and how he carries himself.

“There’s many different people with many different ideas on Alberto with everything from he’s gone [from AAA], which I don’t expect watching the way they put that thing, to he’s going to the main roster, which I don’t expect, but there are absolutely people pushing for that…There are people very, very impressed with Alberto as far as the way he handles himself as a star and he’s super, super over. He’s the biggest star in the company,” Meltzer said.

This contrasts sharply with WWE’s observable actions, such as having Del Rio drop the AAA Mega Championship to El Hijo Del Vikingo shortly after the acquisition. The situation highlights an internal division where Del Rio’s perceived value as a star is being weighed against his controversial history and the company’s current creative direction, leaving his future in limbo.
