Major Update on Former Champion’s Return to AEW

New information has emerged regarding the status of Mercedes Martinez within AEW, where she has not competed on television for eighteen months. Her last televised match for the promotion was in December 2023, when she partnered with Diamante against Kris Statlander and Willow Nightingale.

During a recent installment of Fightful Select’s Weekly Q&A podcast, Sean Ross Sapp addressed inquiries about Martinez. Sapp reported that Martinez is still an active wrestler and recently competed at a Shine event. He noted, however, that her wrestling appearances have become less frequent over the past year, with only a few matches during that period. Crucially, Sapp confirmed that Martinez remains under contract with AEW.

Martinez’s most recent match under the AEW umbrella, specifically for ROH, took place in April 2024. Despite her extended absence from AEW and ROH television programming, which now exceeds seven months for ROH, her contractual tie to AEW continues.

Outside of AEW and ROH, Martinez has maintained a presence on the independent circuit. At the beginning of 2025, she appeared at VIP Wrestling Dallas, an event where she was recognized as the promotion’s inaugural women’s champion.
