Major Update on Gage Goldberg’s Future in WWE

While Goldberg’s career concluded at WWE Saturday Night’s Main Event, the door may be opening for the next generation. During the post-show media scrum for WWE Evolution, Triple H addressed the potential signing of Goldberg’s son, Gage, who was present in the ring for his father’s farewell speech.

Triple H indicated a strong possibility of seeing another Goldberg in the business, citing Gage’s own ambitions.

“He probably won’t be the last Goldberg in the business. I can see this sparkle in Gage’s eyes, and he’s been very clear about it – if the NFL doesn’t work out, here he comes. So we’ll see.”

Gage Goldberg himself has previously referred to a WWE career as his “backup plan” if a path in professional football does not materialize, a sentiment now echoed by one of the company’s top executives.

The discussion about the family’s future in wrestling comes just after the elder Goldberg’s final match on July 12, where he challenged Gunther for the World Heavyweight Championship in his hometown of Atlanta, Georgia. The bout, which was heavily promoted as Goldberg’s retirement match, saw him ultimately lose after passing out in a sleeper hold.

The event was not without its difficulties. Goldberg entered the match with legitimate knee and shoulder injuries and revealed he was also dealing with personal tragedy outside the ring. The presentation drew mixed reactions, with some criticism directed at the decision to have the farewell match on a special broadcast rather than a major premium live event and for cutting his farewell speech short on the live broadcast. WWE later released the full speech on its YouTube channel.
