Major Update on Possible WarGames Match Between Triple H and Shawn Michaels After WWE NXT Tease

That much-discussed tease of a possible WarGames clash between Triple H and Shawn Michaels on NXT Homecoming appears to be nothing more than a moment of nostalgia. A new report indicates that WWE has no creative plans to build on the segment that briefly set social media and the wrestling world ablaze.

The speculation began during the opening of this week’s NXT Homecoming, marking the brand’s return to Full Sail Arena. Standing in the ring, Triple H hinted at reclaiming his old position in NXT, only for Shawn Michaels to shut down the idea immediately, warning it would be a “very, very big problem.”

The tension between the longtime partners escalated when William Regal arrived and, with his trademark delivery, dropped the single word that sparked the frenzy: “WarGames!”

Despite the excitement, Bryan Alvarez reported on Wrestling Observer Radio that fans should not expect a DX showdown inside the double cage. The segment, Alvarez explained, was produced strictly for entertainment purposes and designed to spotlight several legends during the homecoming broadcast. “It was a total comedy segment,” Alvarez noted. “They’re not doing a Triple H versus Shawn Michaels WarGames, but it was a way to get everyone on TV.” (h/t Wrestling Inc.)

The Full Sail crowd also witnessed WWE Women’s Tag Team Champions Charlotte Flair and Alexa Bliss take part in the festivities. Flair asserted that “the women have always run NXT,” before the segment concluded with a familiar D-Generation X callback. The closing moment delivered a nostalgic high for the audience, even if the much-hyped WarGames tease ultimately leads nowhere.
