The official status of Roman Reigns has been clarified, as WWE now lists him as an “Inactive” superstar on its roster. While he remains off television, current internal expectations point toward a high-profile return during the lead-up to the SummerSlam premium live event this August.
Reigns was written off programming following a significant assault on the April 21st edition of WWE RAW. The storyline development featured a heated confrontation with Paul Heyman, which culminated in a coordinated attack where Reigns was blindsided by Seth Rollins and Bron Breakker.
This ongoing absence is reportedly a deliberate part of WWE’s long-term plan to feature Reigns as a part-time, marquee attraction, adopting a schedule similar to the one Brock Lesnar famously maintained. His limited in-ring schedule, which included just six matches in 2024 and only three in 2025 thus far, supports the strategy of marketing his appearances as major events.
Although previous reports from May speculated about possible returns at Saturday Night’s Main Event or the Money in the Bank event on June 7, neither of those materialized.
Concurrent with his WWE hiatus, Reigns has been expanding his acting career in Hollywood. He is set to appear in the action-comedy The Pickup, which also stars Eddie Murphy and Pete Davidson and is scheduled for release on Prime Video on August 6th. Furthermore, Reigns is reportedly in discussions for a role in the live-action Street Fighter film.
The shift in his WWE role also aligns with past statements from the 39-year-old performer, who previously indicated that his current contract with the company is set to expire after WrestleMania 42.
