Reports have surfaced regarding Mariah May’s contractual status with AEW. Wrestling Observer Newsletter’s Dave Meltzer has shared information suggesting the performer has communicated to AEW leadership her intentions regarding her future with the company.
According to Meltzer, May has informed AEW officials that she does not plan to renew her contract. This decision reportedly influenced the timing of her match against Toni Storm at the Revolution event, which occurred earlier than many expected given their developing rivalry.
I observed several times that I was surprised they did that match at that time, because it was a hot rivalry and didn’t need a final blowoff after only three matches. Apparently, May made it clear at that time that she wouldn’t be signing a new contract, so they booked the match at that time for that reason.
While speculation initially suggested May might be WWE-bound following Revolution, newer information from Fightful Select paints a different picture. Sources indicate May is strategically leveraging industry rumors during negotiations, aiming to establish her market value without rushing into any decisions.
May has not appeared on AEW programming since her defeat to Storm, fueling further speculation about her status. Fightful Select reports that Tony Khan’s organization maintains significant interest in keeping the performer on its roster.
Industry observers were particularly surprised by revelations suggesting May’s current contract could be unusually short-term, potentially explaining the accelerated behind-the-scenes developments. As of now, no final determination has been reported regarding May’s wrestling future.
