On the Countdown to Clash in Paris pre-show panel today, commentator Michael Cole incorrectly stated that John Cena’s final match had been moved to January. The on-air slip-up occurred while Cole was discussing Cena’s remaining schedule ahead of his match tonight against Logan Paul.
Speaking alongside Wade Barrett and Big E, Cole said, “He’s only got a couple of more dates left. He’s got three months left before he finally has his final match in January.” The comment quickly led to fan speculation that more dates had been added to Cena’s ongoing farewell tour.
However, Cole later corrected his statement during the broadcast. “I think I misspoke earlier,” he clarified. “John Cena’s final match will actually be in December of this year, I believe I might have said January, but Cena wraps up his retirement tour in December of this year.”
Cole’s correction brings the timeline back in line with WWE’s previously announced plans for Cena’s retirement. The 17-time world champion’s final match is officially scheduled for a Saturday Night’s Main Event special on December 13, 2025, which will stream on Peacock. While unconfirmed, the event is widely expected to take place at the TD Garden in Boston, near Cena’s hometown.
Cena’s 2025 farewell tour has already included winning a record-setting 17th world title at WrestleMania 41 and later losing the Undisputed WWE Championship to Cody Rhodes at SummerSlam. After his match in Paris tonight, Cena has a few key appearances remaining on his schedule. These include Wrestlepalooza in September, Crown Jewel in October, and Survivor Series: WarGames in November.
While an opponent for his December finale has not been named, Seth Rollins and Gunther have been rumored as leading candidates for the historic match.
