MJF Set for Major Title Match Outside AEW

AEW star MJF is set to challenge for a championship in another promotion, marking his second match within the Mexican wrestling company, CMLL. The match stems from the established working relationship between the two organizations, which has seen numerous talent crossovers.

During its Informa program, CMLL announced that MJF will challenge Averno for the CMLL World Light Heavyweight Championship. The title match is scheduled for the August 1 edition of Viernes Espectacular.

CMLL later confirmed the booking on social media, reinforcing the high-stakes encounter.

“Confirmed Battle! Averno and MJF will face off on Friday, August 1st for the CMLL World Light Heavyweight Championship,” the promotion stated.

This international title challenge comes at a pivotal time for MJF in his home promotion. He currently holds a guaranteed opportunity for the AEW World Championship, a right he earned after winning the Casino Gauntlet match at All In: Texas.
