Bully Ray publicly criticized AEW, stating on Twitter that the company is a “lost” product lacking “definitive direction.” He directly targeted owner Tony Khan, describing him as a fan with money who is “not a booker.” In response, top AEW star MJF dismissed the critique and urged fans to disregard Bully Ray’s opinion.

In his post, Bully Ray acknowledged the company has talented wrestlers but claimed its leadership was flawed.

“Unfortunate, but… AEW, as a product, is lost,” Ray wrote. “There’s certainly some bright spots (talent) – but as a company, lacks definitive direction. Is what it is. A company owned and operated by a fan with lots of $$ TK – Good guy, good heart, not a booker And ‘the boys’ know it.”

MJF countered by comparing Bully Ray to failed athletes from other sports. He argued their opinions on current professionals would hold no weight.

“Imagine if Anthony Bennett did a podcast criticizing the NBA and its players,” MJF posted. “Imagine if John Gochnaur did a podcast criticizing the MLB and its players. Would you take their opinions into account? Wrestling fans. I urge you, I know it’s hard for ya. stop being dumb. Thx.”

This public support for AEW management aligns with MJF’s long-term position in the company. In March, he confirmed signing a significant new contract in 2024, ending speculation about his future.

His last major match was a loss to Adam Page for the AEW World Championship at Forbidden Door on August 24. Following the event, MJF was removed from The Hurt Syndicate, shifting his character in a new direction. He currently holds a future championship opportunity after winning the Casino Gauntlet at All In.
