London fans witnessed the harsh reality of pro wrestling’s cutthroat nature as The New Day crushed what should’ve been a triumphant homecoming story at WWE RAW. Kofi Kingston and Xavier Woods showed their newfound villainous side isn’t just for show, systematically dismantling the hometown heroes and earning themselves a future shot at tag team gold in the process.
The match was set up after Kingston and Woods delivered a scathing promo targeting the London crowd, prompting Adam Pearce to intervene and announce their opponents would be Pete Dunne and the returning Tyler Bate. Despite tremendous crowd support for New Catch Republic, the match’s conclusion saw Kingston interfere from ringside to trip Bate before joining Woods to deliver their devastating Midnight Hour finisher for the three-count victory.
Following their win, The New Day’s victory celebration on the entrance ramp was cut short when War Raiders confronted them, creating a tense standoff between the new number one contenders and the current Raw Tag Team Champions. This confrontation sets the stage for an inevitable championship clash, though WWE has yet to announce when that match will take place.
The defeat is particularly disappointing considering Bate just received medical clearance in February 2025 after being sidelined for seven months with an injury. Before his setback, New Catch Republic had shown tremendous potential on the main roster, challenging for tag team gold at both Elimination Chamber and WrestleMania XL. Now it seems they’ll need to rebuild their momentum while The New Day moves forward with their championship aspirations.
