Channing “Stacks” Lorenzo secured his first singles championship in WWE, capturing the vacant NXT Heritage Cup on the June 24 episode of WWE NXT by defeating his former partner, Tony D’Angelo.
The title match, which reinstated the traditional round-based system, concluded with a 2-1 score in favor of Lorenzo. D’Angelo initially took the lead, winning the second round with a Spear. Lorenzo evened the score in the fourth round, securing a quick pinfall with a small package.
The decisive moment came in the final round, stemming from growing dissension within D’Angelo’s camp. Luca Crusifino, attempting to assist D’Angelo, inadvertently struck him in the back with a bucket. Lorenzo capitalized on the mistake, delivering a suplex followed by a Shining Wizard to secure the pinfall and the championship.
Following the match, a furious D’Angelo attacked Crusifino with a punch, solidifying the breakdown of his alliance.
The NXT Heritage Cup was vacated prior to the event due to an injury sustained by the previous champion, Noam Dar. This development set the stage for the championship match between the two former allies, placing their heated rivalry at the center of the title picture. The victory marks a significant milestone for Lorenzo, completing his ascent after his betrayal of The D’Angelo Family months earlier.
