Keith Lee recently clarified his status regarding his extended absence from AEW programming, indicating that the decision for his return is out of his control. After being away from the ring since late 2023, Lee responded to fan inquiries on social media with direct statements about his situation.
In a response to a fan, Lee explained his position clearly.
I am quite fine. It is not up to me when it comes to a return. But blessings to you as well.
He further emphasized this point when another supporter suggested a fan campaign to encourage his return.
I’ve been good for quite some time, though I do appreciate the concern. But no campaign required. Things happen the way they are suppose to, and eventually, the purpose will show itself.
These comments suggest that while the wrestler feels physically prepared, his return hinges on either receiving medical clearance or a creative decision from AEW management. Lee’s last match was a victory over Brian Cage during an AEW Collision special in December 2023. Shortly after, he was pulled from the Worlds End event due to an injury that he later revealed had been an issue since 2022.
Reports from October 2024 noted that Lee remained under contract with the company but had not yet been medically cleared to compete. His recent statements are consistent with a message he shared in late May 2025, where he expressed confidence in an eventual comeback, stating:
Only time will tell when or where, but I am confident that time will come.
Lee’s absence interrupted a significant run that included winning the AEW World Tag Team Championship with Swerve Strickland. A planned storyline between the two former partners was cut short following the Worlds End event due to Lee’s undisclosed medical issues.
