Ricky Starks is next in line for the NXT Championship. He secured his spot as the #1 contender after defeating Josh Briggs on the August 26 episode of NXT and will now challenge Oba Femi for the title.
The show opened with Starks declaring his intention to challenge Femi. The promo was cut short by Josh Briggs, who argued he deserved the opportunity, leading to an official #1 contender’s match between the two later in the evening.
Starks overcame Briggs to earn the victory and solidify his championship opportunity.
The challenge comes just days after Oba Femi’s successful title defense at Heatwave on August 24. In the main event of that show, Femi defeated Je’Von Evans in a “David vs. Goliath” style match, continuing his dominant reign.
The NXT Championship match between Oba Femi and Ricky Starks is now set for No Mercy. The event will take place on Saturday, September 27, 2025, at the FTL War Memorial in Fort Lauderdale, Florida.
