Paul Heyman discusses WWE’s championship landscape amid title expansion
Paul Heyman shares insights on WWE's championship landscape amid title expansion, while The OG Bloodline storyline continues to evolve heading into RAW's Netflix debut.
Paul Heyman has weighed in on WWE’s recent championship expansion, expressing concerns about title saturation in the company. His comments come in the wake of WWE introducing two new women’s mid-card championships this month.
Speaking with Shakiel Mahjouri of CBS Sports, Heyman addressed reports that he opposed adding mid-card titles during his tenure as SmackDown’s head writer. The WWE Hall of Famer confirmed his stance, emphasizing the importance of dedicating sufficient time to each championship.
“I’m not a big fan of a multitude of titles unless you can give them enough time,” Heyman said. “We had proper focus at that time on the championships that we held and didn’t feel that we needed more championships to tell better stories.”
WWE recently unveiled the Women’s United States Championship on SmackDown and the Women’s Intercontinental Title on RAW, expanding the women’s division’s title landscape. When asked about potentially reducing title counts in wrestling promotions, Heyman stressed that relevance matters more than numbers.
“If you can make it relevant, or pin intended to the island of relevancy, then it will work,” Heyman explained. “If you have seven titles and you’re struggling to put relevancy on all seven, then you need to cut down the number that you have.”
OG Bloodline storyline set to continue into Netflix era
Reports from WrestleVotes Radio indicate the faction’s storyline will extend beyond Survivor Series: WarGames and into RAW’s debut on Netflix.
The group’s narrative, which began primarily on SmackDown, looks to expand across both major WWE broadcasts. This development suggests WWE plans to feature The OG Bloodline prominently as the company transitions RAW to its new broadcasting home.
