Possible Reason John Cena Isn’t Getting Brock Lesnar WWE Rematch Revealed

A statement has been made by Matt Hardy regarding speculation of a potential rematch between Brock Lesnar and John Cena, questioning if fan interest exists for another match after Lesnar’s decisive victory at WWE Wrestlepalooza on September 20.

Speaking on his The Extreme Life of Matt Hardy podcast, Hardy outlined his position on the angle. “Jon, we don’t always agree, but I do agree with you there. I don’t see him [Brock Lesnar] going out [and renewing the rivalry]. I feel like beating him in less than a 10-minute match, he was dominant at the end of it, right? It was multiple F-5s over and over again. I don’t feel like that’s gonna make people crave a return match.”

Hardy’s comments refer to a bout that concluded in nine minutes, where Lesnar defeated Cena after executing six F-5s. Despite the definitive outcome, there has been speculation about a potential second encounter at Saturday Night’s Main Event on December 13.

While his future with Lesnar remains uncertain, 17-time World Champion John Cena has his next match scheduled. He is set to face AJ Styles at Crown Jewel in Perth, Australia, on October 11, which will be their first one-on-one contest since 2018.

The dominant booking of the Wrestlepalooza match was reportedly intentional. According to a report from the Wrestling Observer Newsletter, the creative direction was to re-establish Lesnar as an unstoppable force. The long-term plan is for a rising star to eventually “slay the monster,” with Jacob Fatu, Bron Breakker, and Cody Rhodes reportedly identified as the primary candidates for that role.
