Raja Jackson Investigation Escalates As State Authorities Take Over

The legal fallout from Raja Jackson’s in-ring assault on Stuart “Syko Stu” Smith has intensified, as the state of California is now preparing to take over the investigation from the Los Angeles Police Department, according to Ringside News. The development comes with a strong indication that Jackson is expected to face incarceration for his actions.

Speaking on The Masters of Wrestling podcast, Doug “The Epic” Malo revealed the significant shift in the case’s jurisdiction. Citing a detective friend, Malo explained that the state is stepping in due to the overwhelming evidence and the slow pace of the initial LAPD investigation.

“I talked to a detective friend of mine and he told me the process of everything and how bad they dragged their feet—especially LAPD,” Malo stated. “But he’s saying that because of all the evidence, the state’s going to pick it up. I’ve already talked to a detective who’s on the case. So, it’s not like he’s not going to jail.”

This legal escalation is a direct result of the events from last Saturday, August 23, at a KnokX Pro Wrestling Academy event in Sun Valley. The incident began after Smith reportedly hit Jackson with a drink can in the parking lot. Jackson, son of former UFC champion Quinton “Rampage” Jackson, later entered the ring and attacked Smith, slamming him to the mat before striking the apparently unconscious wrestler approximately 23 times in the face.

Smith was hospitalized with severe head injuries following the assault. As of this past Thursday, he had regained consciousness and was able to communicate, though his brother noted he faces a “difficult recovery ahead.” A GoFundMe campaign launched by Smith’s wife to cover medical bills for the U.S. Army veteran has raised over $207,000.

Shortly after the attack, Quinton “Rampage” Jackson issued a public apology, stating he did not condone his son’s actions and believed the situation was a “work that went wrong.” He also revealed that his son had suffered a concussion just days prior and should not have been involved in any physical altercation.

Professionally, the consequences have already begun. Just yesterday, TMZ Sports reported that a Southern California venue scheduled to host an upcoming Danger Pro Wrestling show has banned Raja Jackson from the premises. Venue officials stated they do not believe Jackson was ever officially booked, suggesting the promotion may have used his name for publicity.

With state authorities now involved, the case is considered one of the most serious legal matters in the wrestling world in recent memory.
