According to Mike Johnson of PWInsider, John Cena is currently filming the upcoming Matchbox movie in Budapest, Hungary, explaining his absence from WWE television heading into Royal Rumble 2025.
Cena’s most recent WWE appearance occurred during the January 6 RAW on Netflix premiere, where he commenced his year-long retirement tour.
The 16-time world champion previously confirmed his participation in his final Royal Rumble match on February 1.
The Matchbox project, which Cena joined in September 2024, falls under the Skydance, Apple, and Mattel Films banner. Mattel Films previously produced the successful Barbie movie in 2023. The live-action film draws inspiration from the toy car brand and includes producers David Ellison, Dana Goldberg, and Don Granger from Skydance, alongside Robbie Brenner of Mattel Films.
