With his in-ring return nearing, WWE is reportedly preparing major plans for Rey Mysterio that stretch beyond its own programming. According to WrestleVotes Radio, internal discussions have positioned the Hall of Famer as the focal point of WWE’s partnership with the newly acquired Lucha Libre AAA promotion once he is cleared to compete.
Mysterio has been sidelined since undergoing surgery in April, but his recovery is said to be on track. The report adds that a second co-branded WWE and AAA streaming event is under consideration before the end of the year, with Survivor Series weekend in San Diego emerging as a strong candidate. The location would be a fitting stage for Mysterio’s return, given the city’s official “Rey Mysterio Day” in his honor.
That show could also set the stage for the next chapter of his family rivalry. The report speculated that a San Diego main event might see Rey Mysterio challenge his son, Dominik Mysterio, for the AAA Mega Championship.
The rift between father and son remains unresolved.
Speaking recently on the Shoboy Show, Rey described his son in blunt terms. “He’s the Scarface of wrestling right now. He’s on cloud nine right now. Let him ride it, let him ride it. I’ll eventually knock him back on his a—.”
